Laverne “Vern” M. Wells, 78 of Columbus, NJ passed away Tuesday at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. Born in Pompton Lakes, NJ he resided in Oakland, NJ before moving to Columbus,NJ 7 years ago. Vern was a Data Analyst for Singer Kearfott in Little Falls, NJ. He was a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society, active in the Four Season’s @ Mansfield Community, EMT for Oakland, NJ, Scoutmaster for Boy Scout troop 78 of Pompton Lakes, and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Vern will be remembered for volunteering whenever he saw a need. Vern is the husband of the late Joan E. Wells who he was married to for 56 years. He is survived by his beloved family; one daughter Robynn Derbyshire and spouse John of Vernon, NJ; two sons Robert S. Wells of Clifton, NJ, and Steven L. Wells & fiancée Pamela Whiteman of Hopatcong,NJ; brother Irvin Wells & spouse Dolores of Lakeland Florida; four grandchildren Sean, Carl, Rebecca & Steven, and one great-grandson Szandor. Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 24th, 2008 at noon from the Huber-Moore Funeral Home 517 Farnsworth Avenue Bordentown, NJ. Burial will follow in the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery in Arneytown with military honors. Calling hours will be Saturday March 22nd, 2008 from 2-4pm and again Monday March 24th, 2008 from 11am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
