Joanne L Kirby

January 24, 1950 - April 11, 2022

Joanne L. Kirby, age 72, of Mansfield Township, formerly of Marlton, NJ, and Willow Grove, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 11, 2022 with her loving family by her side. Joanne was born in Abbington, PA, raised in Willow Grove, later moving to Marlton, graduating from Lenape High School “Class of 67”. Joanne was always an educator at heart, providing advice and empowering friends and family to achieve their very best. She received her degree in Elementary Education from Trenton State College, then earned her masters in Guidance and Counseling from Trenton State and a 2nd Masters in Learning Disabilities from Glassboro State College. Joanne started her teaching career in Pemberton Township, NJ where she met her loving husband, Frank and many life-long friends. In 1984, Joanne started working for the Edgewater Park Board of Education as a learning consultant and supervisor of special services, before becoming Assistant Superintendent for the district from 2008-2011. Upon her retirement she was able to focus on her hobbies which included painting, traveling, book club, enjoying a good glass of wine, and NOT cooking. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s RC Church, Bordentown, and Treasurer of the Del-Val Decorative Painters Club. Daughter of the late Joseph and Johanna Gimbel, she was preceded in death by her brother Robert Gimbel in 2008. Joanne is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years Frank H. Kirby; two daughters Kristen Kirby of Phoenixville, PA and Laura Kirby of Mansfield Township, NJ; a sister-in-law Karen Kuria Gimbel; brother and sister-in-law Roger and Claire Kirby, brother-in-law Alfred Kirby, as well as nieces Carrie Gimbel and Jen Baker; nephew Brian Kirby; grand nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends that have become family. A visitation will be held on Tuesday April 19, 2022 from 6-8 PM, and on Wednesday April 20th from 9:15 to 10:15 AM at Huber-Moore Funeral Home, 517 Farnsworth Ave, Bordentown, NJ 08505. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Wednesday April 20th, 2022 at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown, NJ 08505.
