Mary J. Umbehauer

August 5, 1928 - March 13, 2022

Mary Jane DeCoster Umbehauer, born August 5, 1928, Highland Park, NJ. Mary along with her beloved sisters, Nancy & (Hank) Ballard, Phyllis & Brew, Judy and (Don) Felber were doted on by her parents Joseph and Elvira (Conlon) DeCoster & Aunties, Annie, Gertie, Libbie and Madeline. She loved her brother in-law Bill Conway and his wife Rosie. As a child Mary with her dear sisters, enjoyed scouts, swimming and skiing. Mary played Gabriel in many Christmas plays which brought a love of acting and dancing she carried throughout her adult life. After HS Mary was a model for JR Powers in NY, and enjoyed traveling to various locations for work. Mary married William Francis Umbehauer New Year’s Eve 1949, and together they had 9 children William Jr. (Julia Weiford), Maryjane (Philip Kenney), Craig (Kathleen Jensen), Douglas (Kathy Flood), Lisa, Jeffrey (Pat Carnell) Timothy (Lynn Mahalik), Thomas (Robin Pence) and Jennifer. The family lived in various homes in NJ, IL, MD and then back to her favorite home in Medford Lakes, NJ, where they enjoyed many happy years. Mary spent hours entertaining and cooking for her growing family at their shore home at Long Beach Island. In both locations Mary participated in many community theatre productions. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mary had 24 grandchildren: (Bill)William III and spouse, Colleen, Johnnie and spouse Janine, Julian and spouse Danielle, MaryKate, (Maryjane) Adam and spouse Michelle, Luke and spouse Katie, Joshua and spouse Guli , Sarahjane and soon to be spouse Chris, (Craig) Kristy and spouse Kris, (Douglas) Melissa and spouse Matt, Kate and spouse Mike, Doug Jr. and spouse Michelle, (Lisa) Leah and spouse John, Wade and soon to be spouse Rachel, Madison, Max, (Jeffrey) Holly and spouse Mike, Hana and spouse JT, Philip, Ben & Sara, (Timothy)Lauren, Amanda, Jillian (Thomas) Kyle, Erica. She had 30 great-grandchildren: Sophie, Parker, Delaney, Aiden, Lydia, Bryce, Bella, Crew, Brianna, Grace, Ryan, Alyia, Liam, Annie, Juliette, Ameera, Shea, Halle, Landon, Baileigh, Dougie, Lilie, Grace, Lucy, Lucas, Mackenzie, Lily, JT Jr., Jason, and Johnnie. Mary was active in both Holy Eucharist parish in Tabernacle and St. Frances at LBI as an active choir member. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022, from 10-11AM, at the Church of the Holy Eucharist, 520 Medford Lakes Rd., Tabernacle, NJ. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11AM, at the church.
