Tindara Genovese
July 1, 1935 - March 17, 2022
Tindara "Tina" Genovese, 86, of Browns Mills, NJ passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Samaritan Hospice at Virtua Memorial Hospital, in Mount Holly, NJ, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 1, 1935 in Barcellona, Italy to the late Salvatore and Francesca Benedetto. Tindara enjoyed a happy childhood in Barcellona, with her many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was known for her lead musical and dramatic performances in local theater. She survived the bombings of Sicily in WWII, completed her schooling, majoring in languages, and attended college in Messina, Sicily. Her parents brought her to the United States at the age of 20, and Francesco followed her here where they married and raised their family in Brooklyn NY. Tindara and Francesco were very active in their community. The helped start a group to provide assistance to immigrants in the area. Tindara was very busy as the Secretary of the organization, and the editor of their local newsletter. She also was very active in the Parish of St. Athanasius in Brooklyn. She was a singer in the choir, a lector, and helped with Sacrament preparation for the children of Italian Immigrant parents. Tindara lended her translating skills to St. Athanasius School; all the while keeping her home organized and clean, and providing for the needs of her three daughters and her husband. Tindara was a selfless, faithful, loving person, putting everyone before herself. She was a very generous soul. This was evident in her passion for cooking, nurturing and providing love and understanding to those around her. She approached everyone she met with love, asking them all about themselves and their families, and she would never forget their names. Tina was inspiring with her many talents – song, worship, theater, language and the arts. She left a major imprint on everyone who knew her, and her life lessons and traditions will carry on. Tindara had a strong passion to help and provide a voice for the voiceless, such as animals, newborns, the elderly and those at the end of life. Even plants thrived and bloomed in loving response to her gentle care. All her actions and devotions were guided by love for others. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, sacrificing her own needs for the good of others. She showed strength and resilience even to the very end, relying on her strong faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ and love for the Church. Tindara is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Francesco Genovese, her daughters, AnnaMaria Noftsier and her husband, Louis Noftsier, and their children and grandchildren; Laura Genovese and her husband, Alan Ross; Lisa Gruber and her husband Todd Gruber; and by her two granddaughters, Rebecca Gruber, and her fiance’ Yancey Duran; and Claudia Ramirez, and her husband, Morgan Ramirez.
